Architectural Studies

Hunter Research has several graduate-level, National Park Service-qualified architectural historians on its full-time staff. These personnel are typically engaged in historic sites surveys where the inventory and evaluation of historic buildings, structures and landscapes are required. Preparing nominations to the National Register of Historic Places (and other state and local registers) is a common outgrowth of these surveys.

Our firm is often called upon to document and report on historic buildings and structures undergoing demolition or relocation. These projects usually involve recording through drawing and photography in accordance with the requirements of the Historic American Buildings Survey and the Historic American Engineering Record.

Our architectural historians frequently work alongside architects, engineers and planners producing historic structures reports and preservation plans, sometimes taking the lead on specific projects of this type. We have teamed successfully with many of the leading architects in the region and we are experienced in dealing with the complex regulatory and coordination requirements of restoration and rehabilitation projects.
