Jessica Nicholson joined Hunter Research as an Archaeologist in September 2025. Jessica has field experience in Phase I–Phase III archaeological surveying and excavations, and she brings a multidisciplinary approach to her work, combining technical proficiency in GIS, data analysis, and digital documentation with a deep commitment to cultural preservation and archaeological research. Her recent projects include archaeological investigations at Sutfin House in Monmouth Battlefield State Park, metal detecting surveys at Caldwell Parsonage in Union, NJ (NPS Battlefield Projection Grant), and ongoing excavations at the Lord Stirling Manor site in Bernardsville, NJ.
Jessica is a graduate of Monmouth University’s Anthropology program with a Graduate Certificate in Archaeology (M.A., 2025), where she finished with distinction and was awarded Outstanding Graduate Scholar in Anthropology. Her graduate thesis, “Grave Thoughts: Exploring the Evolution of Symbolic Thinking through Hominin Burials,” examines the emergence of symbolic behavior through the study of early burial practices across the Pleistocene epoch. Jessica was also a Graduate Assistant in the Archaeology Laboratory, where she worked closely with professors on research, record keeping, and artifact analysis for various archaeological projects. Jessica has a B.A. (2018) from New York University’s Anthropology program with minors in Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics, and American Sign Language. Before pursuing her graduate studies, Jessica built a strong analytical foundation through her roles as a Pricing Analyst at Amherst and Project Manager at MNS Real Estate, where she led data-driven projects and stakeholder communications for large-scale portfolios.
